Dance the day away...
Dance the day away on The Retirement Show Dancefloor with our amazing instructors who will be showing you how to move across the floor like a pro! No matter what style of dance suits you we have something for everyone - from jump jive, boogie and swing, to the waltz, the tango and the foxtrot. If you fancy something different you can try your hand at American line dancing or latin salsa dancing. Our professional dancers will show you the moves so you will know exactly what you are doing. Take a look at our Show Programme so you know when you should be on the dancefloor!
The Old Time Dance Society will be demonstrating lively dances which are easy to learn - meaning that everyone can join in. Having compteted in professional competitions, opened their own dance schools and organised charity dances the instructors have a huge amount of experience and will be teaching visitors of all levels the basic steps.
Kerris Milligan, of Days Out West American Line dancing, started teaching in 1994, after taking up line dancing at the age of 42. Diagnosed with Osteoporosis she learned that line dancing is good, low impact exercise, as well as being great fun and she has since appeared on TV, raised money for charity through the dancing and still teaches - even though she is now over 60!
GI Jive dance duo Ian and Sheilagh Hartley decided to take early retirement so they could concentrate on their dancing which they took up initially so they could do something together, whilst keeping fit and having fun. Since then they have daned in Ireland, France, Italy, and in California, New York and Texas in America. Come and see them perform the dances that have changed their lives!
Lating American class sessions are also going to be taking place with Dancz. Once you have learnt the steps you are welcome to join Dancz to learn more and to attend their dance socials. Nights with the stars from Strictly Come Dancing and to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom are just a couple of the events they have held in the past, and now they are coming to The Retirement Show to show you how to salsa like a pro!

Free Blood Pressure checks
Nurses from Synexus, the clinical study company will be carrying out blood pressure checks at the Retirement show. The checks will take just a couple of minutes to perform and are free of charge.
Dr John Robinson, clinical director at Synexus Manchester said: "High blood pressure is something that often goes undetected in people for a significant length of time. As people get older it is even more important to keep an eye on their blood pressure, as if left untreated it can lead to problems". Rather than having to try and get an appointment with their GP, visitors to the show can get a free check at the Synexus stand (D20) in the Health Zone.
Synexus is the world's largest clinical study recruitment and management specialist. The company does not carry out experimental first in man studies, but runs "late stage" studies worldwide for all the major pharmaceutical organizations. Synexus has a dedicated research centre based in Manchester, where studies are carried out around treatments from arthritis to restless legs in local people.
For more information on the studies that Synexus is currently recruiting for in Manchester call at Stand number D20 or please contact 0161 608 7790.

A free City Edition is available in Central Manchester, while copies can also be bought in suburban areas. Over 115,000 copies area sold each day and the Manchester Evening News is the second most widely read newspaper in the north west area of England.
The Retirement Show is looking forward to reaching a new audience in the north of England and believes that the show will be a huge success, building on the show in the south of England last year. The Retirement Show in 2008
Following the success of the UK’s first-ever
Retirement Show, in July 2007 at London Olympia, the organisers
have announced that the show will be repeated in London in 2008,
but will also take place in Manchester and Glasgow as well. "Our
research shows that visitors generally travelled for up to two
hours to get to the show (although some did come from as far as
Truro, Harrogate and North Wales). The audience for the show is
therefore regionally-based, and we are very confident indeed that
the show can be repeated in Manchester, London and Glasgow in 2008,
with each show attracting a different cohort of visitors," commented
show director Dr Robert McCaffrey. "We have received a lot
of interest in all three shows, and we expect to take our first
bookings for the shows in the near future."
