ACTIVITY ZONE
Gentle movement and exercise sessions led by our experts proved to be a popular addition to the programme. Sessions lasting appromimately an hour allowed visitors to try something new and to get involved in the show.
PILATES
Our Pilates instructor, Liz Chandler, specialises in Pilates for older people. Liz is a fully qualified Pilates teacher and also trains instructors in the benefits of Pilates for the over 50s. Her inspirational DVD "Real People Pilates for over 50s" features three clients aged between 62 and 70. For The Retirement Show, Liz will be joined by Sylvia, the 70-year old star of the DVD who managed to avoid back surgery by taking up this low impact exercise which focuses on building the body's core strength and improves flexibility, stamina and alignment. Please come and listen to Liz's introduction to Pilates and take part in a gentle session - with Sylvia to help. Copies of the DVD and information on local Pilates classes will be available at the show.
TAI CHI
Relax Focus Flow: Terri Goron will be offering Tai Chi classes. She has a deep understanding of the health needs of older people, running courses for Age Concern and the U3A, as well as her extremely popular private classes. Another of Terri's interests is Circle Dancing and she will be happy to talk to visitors and encourage them to take up this enjoyable and sociable form of exercise where no partner is needed. Come and see Terri between her sessions where she will be pleased to answer any questions you might have about starting this excellent way of keeping fit.
DRU YOGA
"Dru Yoga should be available in every GP surgery." said Dr Hilary Jones, G.M.T.V. Yoga is for fitness, toning, health issues and simply relaxing. Whether you have back pain, headaches, arthritis, stiff joints, or just want to get fit, there is something for everyone. Dru Yoga is eager to inspire a naturally healthier way of living for everybody, regardless of age or fitness. Dru is passionate about positive health and wellbeing, caring deeply about nutrition, remedies and relieving the stresses of everyday living. Dru will be offering half hour taster sessions during both days of The Retirement Show. Please come along and join in with the qualified instructors. The soft flowing movements, controlled breathing and visualisation will work on both body and mind and rejuvenate the soul.
Between sessions, please come and meet Annie Jones and Coby Langford on the Dru stand to ask any questions you have on health and well-being.
BALLROOM DANCE FLOOR
The professionals showed visitors how it's done by hosting classes, taster sessions and free dancing sessions for visitors. All
types of dancing from traditional foxtrot and tango to more modern latin dancing, Swing and
